How to Prepare the Pillowy Gnocchi
First, cook the fresh potato gnocchi according to the package. We boil ours for 3 minutes, then strain with a fine mesh strainer.
Next, heat the ghee, over medium-high heat in a large skillet. We love our Caraway nonstick, non-toxic, ceramic cookware. You can find it online here: Caraway Cookware. Then add the tender gnocchi to the hot skillet and brown on all sides for 3-5 minutes. Set aside when done. If you don’t have ghee, you can also use avocado or olive oil to brown the gnocchi.
Italian Sausage Gnocchi and Tomato Cream Sauce
Next, add the Italian pork sausages to the same skillet that was used for the gnocchi. When it comes to the sausage you can use chicken sausage, hot Italian sausage, turkey sausage, or spicy Italian sausage if you prefer. Cook for 3-5 minutes.
Then add the diced green peppers to the skillet. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the peppers soften just a little.
Use a wooden spoon to loosen any crispy bits that may stick to the bottom of the skillet from the gnocchi. Stir the sausage and peppers to combine.
Next, add the tomatoes to the skillet, (do not drain).
Then add the milk to the skillet.
Add the garlic powder and onion powder to the skillet, and salt and pepper to taste. Stir to combine, and cook until bubbly, about 2-3 minutes.
The final step to making the creamy sauce in this cheesy sausage gnocchi recipe is the cheese. Add the cheese to the skillet, and continue to stir over medium heat until the cheese is melted. About 1-2 minutes.
