Easy Hummus Recipe Ingredients
If you are avoiding garlic for health reasons, or personal reasons there is no reason you can’t still enjoy this healthy snack. This easy homemade hummus recipe is made with just a few simple ingredients, that can easily be found at your local grocery store. You will need:
- 1-15oz can of chickpeas
- 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (juice from 1 lemon)
- 1/4 tahini
- 2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 1/4 tsp salt
- optional- ground paprika and fresh parsley to garnish
You will also need a food processor or high-speed blender.

Drain the Chickpeas
Chickpeas are the main ingredient in this hummus recipe. We find that using canned chickpeas is the easiest and fastest way to make this creamy hummus. Did you know that chickpeas and garbanzo beans are the same thing?
Use a fine mesh strainer and drain the chickpeas. The liquid in the chickpea can is called aquafaba, you will need to keep this. Do not dump this down the drain, at least not yet.

Drain the chickpeas over a bowl or glass to retain the aquafaba. Then set the aquafaba aside and rinse the chickpeas with fresh water.

Here is a clearer picture of the ingredients to make this garlic-free hummus.

How to Make a Simple No-Garlic Hummus Recipe
First, dump the chickpeas into the bowl of a food processor. This is the food processor that we have and love, it can be found online here: Food Processor.

Then add the lemon juice.

Add the cumin and salt.

Next, add the tahini. Tahini is a sesame paste made from ground sesame seeds. It adds a delicious flavor to the recipe.

Add the olive oil. Using a good quality oil makes a world of difference. Many store-bought hummus brands use a lesser-quality oil. Making your own hummus lets you control the ingredients, including the quality of the oil.

That’s all you need to make the creamiest hummus.

Blend until smooth and if the hummus is a bit too thick for your liking go ahead and add a bit of the aquafaba into the food processor. This creates the best flavor and creamy texture as the ingredients blend into an almost whipped fluffy hummus.

We find that letting the food processor run for at least two minutes (or more) creates a smoother hummus. Making your own hummus is easy and much better than any store-bought hummus.
